Cedar Grove Bridge

Cedar Grove Bridge is closed for repair. The alternate route is being repaired and improved.

Background
MSCID is working to repair the Cedar Grove Bridge and improve the roads currently being used as the detour route, including Henrico Road, Bonsal Road and Cedar Grove Road.

The Cedar Grove Bridge, which was built in 1965, reached the end of its useful life in early 2020. The bridge is located over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and has been closed since March 27, 2020, creating a major disruption for trucking, logistics and supply chain companies within the MSCID district and resulting in increased costs and commute times.

AECOM Engineering is designing the replacement bridge. DeKalb County public works director estimates the project will be complete in one and a half to two years, pending any potential weather delays. To accelerate the project timeline, the Cedar Grove Bridge is a design-build project and will use DeKalb County’s on-call contractors.

The CID requested and received detour signage throughout the district to better inform and direct truck drivers unfamiliar with the area and added speed detection devices to stop unsafe traffic speeds through residential areas.

MSCID is also working to improve infrastructure and landscaping along the alternate route to better accommodate increased traffic while the bridge is being rebuilt.
